Department of Sport and Social Science

The Institute consists of a broad academic environment that involves research, development, and teaching in a number of subjects: the Sociology of Sport, Sports Philosophy, History of Sport, Sports Psychology, Coaching, Sport Management and Sport for Development.

Department of Sport and Social Sciences (DSS) is one of four Institutes at the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences and has a broad teaching and research portfolio, and the Child and Youth Sport Research Center is also affiliated here.

Education

In addition to research and developmental work, the Institute offers teaching at both bachelor- and master level and courses at the Phd-level (a course in the Theory of Science and a course in Qualitative Methodology).

At the Bachelor level there are two programs in Sport Management and Coaching and psychology (180 ECTS). In addition, you can find several 1-year courses (60 ECTS): Sport and Society, Sport management and Sports, Culture and Development Cooperation (EN). 

The Master program of Sport Science is a 2 year study with 120 ECTS and the institute offers a degree in four different fields: Sport Psychology, Sport and Coaching, Culture and Society and Sport Management. 

The institute also offers several online courses (EN) and four of these are taught in English: Performance enhancement and antidoping in sport and society, Sport and sustainability, Sustaining sport for development and peace and International Organization of Sports
