NIH will lead European innovation project

The EU invested more than 11 million kroner to increase innovation in for higher education for sport sciences. NIH leads the project that will improve our institution and five other European institutions like ours in innovation and entrepreneurship.

The project is called HeInnovaSport and will help NIH to fulfill its mission to an even greater degree and to promote physical activity and [good] health in an increasingly sedentary population.

The project will meet these societal needs by creating new solutions and ideas which include:

  • Being a driving force for organizational changes that encourage entrepreneurship and innovation at the institutions of higher education involved
  • Improving the quality of education by including entrepreneurship and innovation so that students will be better prepared for careers and for a society in constant change
  • Developing innovation and entrepreneurship training for students and staff, and developing mentorship
  • Encouraging student involvement and create engagement through, e.g. an innovation competition for students and involve students in innovative research projects
  • Establishing incentives that support business ventures
  • Establishing new cooperation with external partners including businesses, community leaders, and research groups
  • Highlighting innovations produced from research

ABOUT EIT AND THE HEI INITIATIVE

The EIT HEI Initiative is a key objective for the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) as part of its new strategy, the EIT Strategic Innovation Agenda 2021−2027. The initiative aims to support higher education institutions with expertise and coaching, access to the EIT innovation ecosystem, and funding, enabling them to develop innovation action plans complementing the needs of individual higher education institutions. As a participant in this project, NIH will work with the following institutions of higher education:

  • Swedish School of Sport and Health Sciences (GIH), Sweden
  • Karolinska Institutet, Sweden
  • University of Craiova, Romania
  • Frederick University, Cyprus
  • University of Luxembourg, Luxembourg

In addition, the following partners will participate from other areas of the knowledge triangle: 

  • Ungt Entreprenørskap, Norway
  • Igloo Innovation AS, Norway
  • International Network for Small and Medium Enterprises, Italy

The project launched on 1 July and will continue for two years.

The project received funding from the EUs key funding program for research and innovation (Horizon Europe) through the EIT HEI Initiative: Innovation Capacity Building for Higher Education which works to increase the entrepreneurial and innovation capacity of higher education institutions across Europe.

HeInnovaSport is the second EU-financed project that NIH will lead (in Norwegian only).
