PhD On Track is a useful aid for literature searches, writing, publishing etc.

Start-up at NIH

When a PhD candidate starts at NIH, they meet the Contact librarian to get information about what the library can offer and find out about the candidate's needs. Training in literature searches is arranged when the candidate is to start the search.

The department's Contact Librarians:

The course PhD640

The library teaches in the course PhD640, where we cover, among other things, literature search, choice of journal and publication, use of articles in the doctoral thesis and what happens to the thesis after the defense.

The use of articles in your PhD thesis

Many publishers have rules for the use of articles published in their journals. Before submitting the PhD thesis, it must be investigated what the publishers allow - and in some cases permission must be obtained for the use of articles.

Elin Hecker at the library is helpful in clarifying this, and she needs a list of your papers (authors, title, journal, year) as well as which version of the articles you will use (submitted, accepted, latest text version or the journal's pdf version).

This should be done before submitting the PhD thesis (preferably 1 month before), as it sometimes takes a long time to get a reply from the publisher.
