Hamstring injuries in female elite football players

PhD project

Female elite football is rapidly developing, and elite players are exposed to greater training volume and competition demands than ever before. This may have implications for the injury risks the players face and are important to examine, as injuries influence the performance and development of football teams and individual players.

Purpose

It has been suggested that the observed increased intensity of female elite football may have increased the risk of hamstring injuries, and research on hamstring injuries in female football players are currently lacking.

The purpose of the project is first to survey all health problems among football players in the Norwegian female elite football league and examine risk factors for injuries. The effect of different protocols of Nordic Hamstring on strength, jumping and speed and preventing hamstring injuries in female football players will also be examined.

Project description

All players in the  Norwegian female elite football league will go through a test battery before the season starts, before all health problems is registered weekly throughout the following season. Effects of the Nordic Hamstring exercise on female football player will be examined separately by a randomized controlled trial.
