The associations of physical activity and sedentary behaviour with the serum metabolome of Norwegian schoolchildren

PhD project

Purpose

To identify both cross-sectional and prospective associations of lipoprotein subclasses with objectively measured physical activity, sedentary behaviour, cardiorespiratory fitness and anthropometric measurements.

Project description

A cohort of Norwegian 9-10 year olds from the Active Smarter Kids Study (ASK) provided both cross-sectional and prospective measurement data. Physical activity and sedentary behaviour were measured objectively by accelerometry. The Andersen test was used to assess cardiorespiratory fitness. Various anthropometric measurements were taken. The children also provided blood
samples which were analysed using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) to determine the concentrations of lipoprotein subclasses.
