Postponement of admission

You can postpone the start of your studies for up till 2 years if you are summoned to the obligatory military service in Norway, in case of birth, adoption or other weighty reasons.

How to apply for postponement of your admission 

In order to apply for a postponed start of your studies at NIH, you must do the following:

  • accept the offer of admission within the given deadline to answer
  • send us an application within 3 weeks after you received the offer of admission

Together with your application you must also send in relevant documentation with the reasons for why you are applying for postponement. This can, for example, be summons to the military service or a certificate from a medical doctor. The online application follows the laws and regulations on personal and sensitive information.

If you apply after the deadline, you will not be able to get the postponement of your study start approved. 

You will receive an answer from us to your digital mailbox. 

Did you apply and got your postponement approved last year?

In this case you are are guaranteed your place as a student at the study program you were admitted to if you:

  • apply for the same study program within the given deadline
  • accept the offer within the deadline
  • upload the decision letter about the granted postponement you received from us
