Introduction

The objective of this course is to prepare and place the students for the internship with local partners in southern Africa. Prior to the placement, the students will have a mandatory training course organized by the Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Confederation of Sports (NIF). Further orientation and practical training will be organized by the local partners in southern Africa.

Regarding the placement with local partners, it is possible for students to personally arrange with other organizations that use sport as a tool for development and peace. However, this requires approval by the program director at NIH.

After completing this course, the student should be able to understand different ways of organizing sport and physical activity in a different context. Also, it will provide practical knowledge of cultural diversity as well as gain first-hand experience relevant for future career goals.

Learning methods and activities

TThis will be conducted by NIF and local partners in Southern Africa. A week-long orientation and internship training program will be organized by NIF before the internship. It also includes an exit course for students who may have to withdraw from the internship. Students will receive follow-up and guidance from the project coordinator of local partners during the internship. Periodic meetings with the project coordinator to discuss personal or group experiences and challenges are central to this course.

Work requirements

In order to have the study approved, the student must complete the full internship period. Approval of the internship is made by the program manager at NIH after consultation with NIF and local partners from Africa.

Assessment/exam

There will be a continuous evaluation and assessment. The internship is assessed by a “pass or fail”.
