Kort biografi

Fiona Dowling er professor i pedagogikk ved Institutt for idrett og samfunnsvitenskap. Hun tok mastergrad ved Loughborough University i 1989 og doktorgrad om kroppsøvingslæreres livshistorier ved NIH i 1998.

Dowling var vitenskapelig assistent ved Loughborough University og arbeidet i helsevesenet i UK med fysisk aktivitet og forebyggende helse før hun flyttet til Norge. Hun har også erfaring som lærer både i England og Norge. Dowling har bidratt til lærerutdanningsstudier ved NIH i en årrekke og arbeider med utdannings- og idrettssosiologiske problemstillinger. Nyere prosjekt inkluderer en studie om lærerutdanneres og læreres perspektiv på  'Hvithet', 'rase' og antirasisme i kroppsøving og idrettsfag (et internasjonalt prosjekt finansiert av British Academy), og en undersøkelse som vurderer idrettsaktivtetstilbud til enslige, mindreårige asylsøkere.
