SPM323 Comparativ Reaserch Project (SPM) (10 ECTS)
Course facts
Introduction
The course provides the students with an opportunity to identify, explore, compare and reflect on a topic of special interest in sport management, by developing a research project. The project should address issues within sport management that are addressed to politics, leadership, culture, governance, business, communication, tourism and/or history.
Learning outcome
The students will:
Knowledge
- understand cross-cultural varieties and similarities in organized sport in different countries as compared to Norwegian sport
Skills
- experience and understand research processes and scientific knowledge regarding relevant theories and methods
- be able to produce a written academic text that portrays the topic in a logical and analytical fashion
General qualification
- be able to work independently on a sport management related topic
Learning styles and activities
The project consists of a self-organized research study and writing of an academic report. The work can be carried out individually or in groups of two. There will be 8 hours of classroom sessions including lectures, presentations by students and group discussions. During the lectures the students are given guidance related to the chosen topic, research questions and design, theoretical approach, and relevant literature.
Assessment
Individual written research report (e.g. in the form of an academic article) of a maximum of 6000 words, exclusive table of content, reference list and attachments, graded A-F.
Core material
* Student and teacher will together set up individual reading lists comprising at least 300 pages of relevant literature
* Lessons and power point presentations used in class are part of the compulsory reading in the course
* Additional articles or chapters in books may be added to the compulsory reading during the course
