Introduction

The internship through the Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Confederation of Sports’ (NIF’s) local partners (in southern Africa) is based on voluntary efforts which also includes finance. Prior to the travel, the students must follow a mandatory training course through the Youth Sport Exchange Program. This particular training is arranged in Norway or in the partner country in Africa. For more information, contact the international department of NIF, www.nif.no.

It is also possible for the student to connect with other sport or aid organizations that use sport as a tool for development and peace. Nevertheless, this requires approval by the program director at NIH.

Learning styles and activities

The internship spans one academic year. Withdrawals and training for students traveling with NIF are carried out via an exit course organized by NIF and a week’s course under the auspices of the Youth Sport Exchange Program. Students receive follow-up and guidance from a project coordinator in the country of the internship. In this light, meetings are held during which the students, together with the coordinator, can discuss the experiences and challenges they encounter. This also applies to students traveling with any other organization. In order to have the study approved, the student must have completed the internship period in accordance with the contract signed with NIF or any other organization. Approval of the internship is made by the study manager after consultation with local coordinators.

Assessment

There will be a continuous evaluation. There are separate rules if the student breaks the contract before the agreed internship period. This is written in the contract form signed by the student, the organization responsible for the internship and NIH. The internship is assessed by a “pass / fail” according to the signed agreement.
