Introduction

The course introduces students to project report writing. It also provides the students with practical insight into the research process. The students will choose a project topic in relation to their volunteer experience in southern Africa. Further, they will develop the topic by collecting their own data (qualitative or quantitative) and discussing relevant theory and literature in relation to the program courses IKU201, IKU210, and the teaching at the University of the Western Cape.

Learning outcomes

After completing this course, the student should be able to

  • systematically reflect on their own work as a sports volunteer in a developing country
  • critically reflect and analyze projects from diverse backgrounds
  • link theory and practice in a satisfactory way

Learning styles and activities

The student will write an independent project paper based on the curriculum. This will include collecting data and personal experience from the field of practice or internship. Prior to the internship placement, a classroom teaching will be given about project writing in accordance with the requirements at NIH.

There would be a follow-up classroom teaching at the University of the Western Cape. Furthermore, students will be guided by the teachers through online follow-ups and interactions.

Mandatory assignment

The topic and problem statement for the project must be approved in advance by the course coordinator at NIH. The approval is therefore subject to the writing of the final project.

Once the approval has been given there is also an onward and periodic supervision of the developing project to ensure that students follow the research standards of NIH.
A regular visit to Canvas to follow the course instructions. Camvas performs an automatic check of the visits.

Assessment

The final project paper is evaluated with grades ranging from A-F.

The exam will be delivered in WISEflow and run through plagiarism control.
