Short biography
Jostein Steene-Johannessen is professor at the Department of Sports Medicine. He obtained his PhD degree in 2009, which was part of a larger epidemiological study on physical activity level, physical fitness and a number of health variables among a nationally representative sample of children and young people (PANCS1). He previously worked as associate professor and research director at the Department of Teacher Education and Sport, Sogn og Fjordane University College (HiSF), now the University College of Western Norway (2009-2013) and then at Kristiania University College as associate professor and academic study leader for the bachelor's degree in Physical Activity and Nutrition. (2013-2018). Jostein Steene-Johannessen research mainly focus on physical activity epidemiology, the effect of schoolbased PA intervention and the effects of breaking sedentary time with physical activity on glucose- and lipid metabolism. He is currently PI for the forth wave of PANCS4 as a part of the Norwegian physical activity and physical fitness surveillance system in Norway.
